Many never get around to planning their funeral wishes with loved ones, and it can lead to all sorts of worry and anxiety when the time comes.

What is a funeral plan?

A funeral plan is a prepaid arrangement that covers the costs of a future funeral, allowing you to lock in today’s prices and take the stress away from your loved ones. Scotmid Funerals offer flexible prepaid funeral plans to help you prepare in advance. Leaving you with peace of mind that your arrangements are in place

There are no complicated medical forms to complete. Our plans cover your funeral costs (as specified in the plan paperwork) as long as we carry out the funeral and your requirements don’t change. For more information, please download our funeral plans brochure.

Flexible payment options

You can choose to pay for your funeral plan by lump sum or in instalments.

A pre-paid funeral plan allows you to arrange and pay for your funeral in advance. By choosing a Scotmid funeral plan, you can ensure that your wishes are carried out while protecting your loved ones from unexpected costs.

Funeral pre-planning involves selecting the type of funeral you want, whether it’s with or without a ceremony, the type of ceremony and you can also choose to include specific personal touches. Our funeral plans provide clarity and peace of mind, ensuring that everything is arranged according to your wishes.

Pre-paid funeral plans also help remove the financial burden for family members. The plans we offer cover your specified funeral costs, no matter how much prices rise in the future. As long as we carry out your funeral and your requirements don’t change, your loved ones won’t be asked to pay more when the time comes.

A Scotmid prepay funeral plan helps shield you and your loved ones from future price increases. It also allows you to organise your funeral in advance, in as little or as much detail as you’d like, so your family won’t have to make difficult decisions at a challenging time.

Scotmid pre-paid funeral plans typically include essential services such as our funeral director fees, collection and care of the deceased, a coffin, transportation on the day of the funeral, cremation fees and other arrangements. Personal wishes can also be included such as readings, song choices, charitable donations, floral arrangements and so on. We offer set packages and personalised plans to suit you via our offices.

Pretty much anyone over the age of 18. For instalment plans, the final instalment must be paid by your 85th birthday.

Of course, You can specify songs, readings, details to be included in your eulogy, anything really. There’s no charge for adding these details but there may be more to pay if you require additional features, like extra cars or unique vehicles for example.

You can usually transfer your plan to a funeral director closer to your new home. This might come at an additional cost though, depending on local prices. You should check the terms and conditions for peace of mind.

Yes, it’s a fairly common occurrence and something many clients choose to do.

Once your plan is paid for, you can change it as often as you like. Tell us what you would like to change, and if there is any additional cost for new features or services to be added, we’ll let you know right away.

As long as your requirements don’t change, all the services and choices listed in your original plan will be covered, as long as it’s us that carries out your funeral.

You can cancel at anytime. And if you choose to do so during the 30 day cancellation period, you’ll receive a full refund.

You pay by lump sum or in instalments. It’s entirely up to you. Although there is an additional cost if you pay over more than 12 months, and some eligibility criteria does apply here. You can find out more in our Instalment Q&A and the Terms and Conditions and we’ll be happy to provide you with a personalised quote.

Unfortunately your plan won’t pay for a funeral abroad, or cover the cost of repatriating you. So it’s important to always check the details of your travel insurance.

Scotmid Co-operative members receive a discount of £100 against the cost of any of our funeral plans. Give your membership number to our team when you’re taking out your plan, and they will apply the discount there and then.

A bit about our plan provider

Our pre-paid funeral plans are provided by a trusted national provider, Ecclesiastical Planning Services.

As part of a specialist, UK-based financial services group, Ecclesiastical Planning Services has offered pre-payment funeral plans since 2006. When you take out a funeral plan with us, Ecclesiastical Planning Services arranges for the funds to be held in an individual whole of life policy. The full value of your plan, excluding the administration fee and any instalment charges, is ring-fenced and cannot be used for anything but your funeral when the time comes.
